SCHOOLCHILDREN in Okehampton are being challenged to put their football skills to the test in a new competition being launched by Exeter City FC and The Co-operative.
The tournament will see teams from Mid Devon compete against each other before going head-to-head with the winning team from East Devon for the first ever Co-operative Small Schools title.
The tournament is being launched to give rural schools the opportunity to focus on football and compete at a regional level. Organisers of the new competition are inviting schools to enter teams of eight players, each including at least two girls, to play in local heats with the chance of appearing on the field at St James' Park, Exeter at half-time during City's game against Dagenham and Redbridge.
The Co-operative will support teams with healthy eating advice and products for each player, and finalists will enjoy professional treatment ahead of the game at St James' Park with full kit and kit bags being supplied by Exeter City FC, and official medals and certificates will be presented to the winners and the runners up.
To be eligible to play in The Co-operative Small Schools Cup schools must have 120 pupils or less who are under nine years old on September 1, 2011. Schools may enter children from the age of seven years old and upwards.
