HATHERLEIGH Market car park is the setting for a slightly unusual charity event being held next week.

The Prostate Scrappage Scheme is being run by Hatherleigh Rotary Club on behalf of the Chestnut Appeal, which raises awareness and provides treatment for people with prostate cancer in Devon and Cornwall.

The club is holding a collection of non-ferrous scrap metal at the car park on Tuesday August 17 and is urging everyone in the area to bring along their items of waste metal, which will be sold and the money donated to the appeal.

Suitable items include copper pipe, copper cylinders, lead flushing, lead pipe, old batteries, old motors, aluminium sheets and aluminium saucepans.

The metal should be brought along to the market car park between 10am and noon, and deposited at the clubs trailer, which will be marked with the Rotary banner.

The club can also collect non ferrous metal items from the parishes of Hatherleigh, Shebbear, Black Torrington and Northlew.

To arrange collection, call Philip Pyle on 01837 810756 or A Beaman on 01837 810024.
