AN opportunity to serve the community has arisen, as North Tawton Town Council advertises for a new member.

The post became vacant following the resignation of Cllr Peter Hill at the last council meeting on September 7.

Town clerk David Bettaney, said: 'A notice has been posted that invites 10 electors to request an election by October 1.

'If this does not happen, and it is rare it does, the town council proposes to fill the vacancy by co-option.'

The applicant must not be debarred from standing as councillor - details of disqualification are available from the clerk.

Mr Bettaney added: 'Although the town council will try to appoint the best applicant the council is to be under-represented with younger persons.'

If any member of the public wishes to be considered they should contact the town clerk at North Tawton Town Council, 14a, The Square, North Tawton, EX20 2EP or call 01837 8801212.
