Plym Valley thirds 2
Okehampton Ladies
seconds 1
THE young Oke ladies second team travelled to Plymouth on Sunday to play their first Plymouth and District league match of the season.
Oke found themselves facing a more mature and physically stronger team.
The visitors initially took control of the first half with quick accurate passing and some penetrating attacking runs by right wing Lottie Trerise.
Oke's continued pressure was rewarded when they were awarded a penalty corner which Kim Davey hammered into the back of the Plym Valley net. Despite having numerous more goal scoring chances Oke were unable to increase their lead.
The second half saw Plym Valley change their tactics and step up a gear with strong hitting and hard tackling. Oke were forced into a defensive game with decisive tackling from full back Nettie Collett.
Despite some superb saves from Oke keeper Carol Taylor, Plym Valley's constant attacking soon led to an equalising goal.
Captain Sophie Whiteley lead her team by example playing with speed and determination, but the Oke girls found it hard to break through their opponents defence. Oke were unlucky to concede a second goal just before the final whistle. Joint player of the match was awarded to Nettie Collett and Sophie Whiteley.
On Sunday Okehampton seconds are away against Callington Ladies.
