THERE’S a host of Devon musical talent performing at this year’s Chagford Show on Thursday, August 18. Once again the entertainment stage at the show will be providing a full and varied selection of musical talent.
The trio 9lb Catfish are from the Exeter and South Devon area consisting of Graham Butterfield and Ian Gardner on guitars, mandolin, banjo and vocals with Jane Gardner singing and playing washboard and percussion. They play a mixture of hokum, ragtime blues and old country music, mainly from the 1920s and 1930s.
Foot Tappers — this will be the third year that this band has performed at the show and they are back by popular request with all the hits from the 1960s. CellarV, a lively five-piece band, will be performing hits from the last five decades and current chart songs. If you want entertainment with your lunch, make a date to see them on stage.
Entertainments organiser Tony Bott told the Times: ‘Chagford Show has tried to create a supporting environ-ment for young up and coming talent. Last year it featured artists from Devon Music and this year we feature Shannah Russell — an exciting and up and coming performer.
‘Shannah is a talented 13 year-old aspiring to be an actress and singer on the West End stage.
‘She has been singing from a very early age but it was not until she was eight years-old her talent was fully discovered, understood and developed, by her primary school teacher.
‘Since then there has been no stopping Shannah; she is an active member of DJR School of Performing Arts in Plymouth, where over the past five years she has performed in several pantomimes, reviews and stage shows.
‘Please come and support this emerging local talent.’
Also back by popular request are the Five Shads of Grey. If you like the music of Cliff Richard and The Shadows, bring your air guitar and join in.
