A GROUP of Okehampton childminders celebrated National Childminding Week with a meeting and play session for the children they look after.

National Childminding Week ran from June 4-11, with the theme of aspiration, reflecting the fact that registered childminders are uniquely placed to nurture interests and build on the future aspirations of the children in their care.

Karen Mallett who helped organise the meeting, said: 'Everyone had a lovely time, networking, sharing ideas and generally having fun with the children.

'We have had a group for over ten years. We find it very useful to join together, approximately once a term, normally meeting at one of our homes in the evening to catch up on information, share ideas, plan outings and sometimes we've had someone in for training.

'Being a childminder can be isolating sometimes and meeting up can help, especially for newish childminders who may need some support.'

The group plans to have an evening meeting for childminders in and around Okehampton on Tuesday July 16. Newcomers are more than welcome to join this friendly and informative group session. For more information call Karen on 01837 55445.
