IT was all nuts and volts for one squirrel who went out with a bang, leaving some residents in Okehampton confused and without power.

The risk-taking squirrel tempted fate after it wandered onto an insulator circuit on the north east side of the town.

The incident on a day in July left residents without power for 12 minutes.

A spokesperson for Western Power Distribution said that in the last four weeks there had been four voltage faults, two of which were caused by 'third party damage'.

The spokesperson said: 'The town was left without power because a squirrel ran on to one of our insulators and unfortunately caused a fault.

'Supplies were restored within 12 minutes of it occurring, but it is sad the squirrel died as a result.'
