Bill Slee cup
South Zeal Utd 4
Exmouth Amateurs 3
(after extra time)
ZEAL progressed to the next round of the cup with a well deserved win against Exmouth on Saturday.
Playing an almost unchanged side for the first time this season the home side were solid at the back and always dangerous in attack but although both sides had chances the first half finished goalless.
Within 10 minutes of the start of the second half the visitors took the lead when a shot from the edge of the penalty area went in off the post giving Reg Wonnacott in the Zeal goal no chance.
Zeal equalised 10 minutes later when Redd Cann exchanged passes with Tom Reilly and Garry Smith, beat several Exmouth defenders and scored from close range.
The home side took the lead with a Harley Cann header but the visitors equalised to take the game into extra time after a goalmouth scramble.
There was no score in the first period of extra time and Zeal went ahead early in the second when Harley Cann won a 50/50 ball from the Exmouth keeper and scored from the narrowest of angles.
Zeal went 4-2 up when Harley Cann completed his hat-trick after a great pass from Tom Reilly. The home side managed to hang on despite a late consolation goal from Exmouth three minutes from the end.
