IT's the countdown to heat one of the '2010 Okehampton Battle of the Bands' and organisers say this year promises to be the biggest and best 'Battle' yet.

There are 24 bands competing for the prestigious grand final places over three heats, with all musical styles covered — from rock to hip hop and indie-punk to metal, the event even has its first tribute band entry.

The first heat is next Thursday, July 22, at the Charter Hall, Okehampton, and the first eight bands are lined up to play.

Doors open at 6pm with the first act on stage at 6.30pm Admission is free but donations are encouraged.

Dan Rose, Battle of the Bands marketing officer, said: 'Thanks go to everyone who has made this event happen, it is not fair to single anybody out but a full list of supporters is on our website http://www.okehamptonbattleofthebands.co.uk">www.okehamptonbattleofthebands.co.uk

'This year there is a licensed bar thanks to the Plymouth Inn, a fantastic air guitar competition with a great prize donated by Time Machine and Bob Matthews and, of course, some incredible music.

'All that is needed to make this the biggest and best battle in Okehampton's Battle of the Bands history is an audience!

'So come down to the Charter Hall on Thursday 22nd, support the event, support the musicians, but most importantly enjoy the music. Plus, don't forget to get your inflatable guitar from Rockhens Coop, the essential air guitar prop and only £2 with all profits going back into the event.'

Heats two and three are on July 29 and August 5 with the grand final in Simmons Park on August 14, which will include a licensed bar, amusements and catering facilities, plus The Hamsters providing the headline act.
