OKEHAMPTON Rugby Club is the latest organisation to benefit from Waitrose’s Community Matters scheme.
Waitrose customers put their green tokens into the bins and in the final result meant the rugby club was awarded £320 from the Community Matters fund.
Last month David Potter, honorary secretary of Okehampton RFC, was invited to the store to receive the cheque which was presented by the Community Matters organiser Theresa Edwards.
David said: ‘The club would like to thank Waitrose and all the customers who voted for the club for this magnificent sum which will be used for buying kit for the coming season.
‘Though this is the close season, the rugby club is never totally inactive.
‘Work is going on to cleanup and refurbish its facilities ready for the season to start in September.
‘The players are already training to achieve a high level of fitness and improve skills under head coach Gareth Evans, and hopes are high for a successful season to come.’
The directors and committees of the club are working hard to set the season up and are laying plans for improving the playing surfaces and drainage in the next few years. More information on this will be available as time goes on.
