SHEBBEAR College sixth form students have spent October undertaking a series of debates and discussions on a series of subjects.
In teams of two, students researched, wrote and presented their arguments for and against a certain topic to an audience of their sixth form peers. Following the presentations, the floor was open to questions from the audience, which had to be answered by the representative to whom it was directed before a final vote was taken.
Topics included 'Should the rich pay higher taxes?' and 'Would military intervention in Syria do more harm than good?'
The debates are designed to encourage the pupils to take an interest in current affairs and develop the ability to hold well thought out discussions which respect the views of others.
Reviews were written by following each debate and these can be read on http://www.shebbearcollege.co.uk">www.shebbearcollege.co.uk
