CHAGFORD Market, November 22, Rendells report: Suckled calf show and sale — a strong trade for suckled calves and store cattle for the autumn show and sale of suckled calves at the market, sponsored by Mole Avon Farmers. The overall quality of calves was very good with regular buyers competing with spirited bidding throughout. Top price of the day was £925 for a pair of 11 month old Limousin x Steers sold by R and E Thorn.

Results in the showing classes, judged by Arnold Dare: Pure bred calves, 1, C Pearse, North Bovey, South Devon heifers selling to £630 with the day's overall champion selling for £660 and purchased by the judge; 2, C Pearse, South Devon Steers, £565.

Cross-bred Steers, 1, H Scott and Son, Blonde d'Aquitaine, reserve champion and winner of the Tom Turner trophy, £782; 2, H Scott and Son, Blonde d'Aquitaine, £770; 3, I G Mortimore and Son, Charolais, £840.
