A BUSY month for the Okehampton and District Local History Society sees them on a summer outing as well as enjoying their month talk.

On Wednesday, June 12 at 7.30pm in the Ockment Centre, Paul Rendell will return to the group to give another of his illustrated talks on Dartmoor, this time on the history of taking water from the moors, including the use of Burrator and Meldon reservoirs.

On June 19, the group will visit Great Fulford House for a guided tour. The Grade I Listed house in Dunsford has been in the same family for over 800 years, who were the focus of a 2004 Channel 4 documentary. The house has also featured on Channel 4's Country House Rescue.

The history society meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Ockment Centre, at 7.30pm.

New members are always welcome, particularly now at the beginning of a new talk programme. Anyone interested should call secretary Jane Lehni on 01837 840087.

Non-members may attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person.
