HEALTH services for the people of Okehampton will be under the spotlight at a health summit in the town later this month.
The meeting is to look at what services need to be provided for the town in the future, and how they are run.
Dr Tim Watson, a GP at Okehampton Medical Centre, said: 'From April this year, your GP has become a member of the Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group that plans and buys health care services on your behalf.
'Okehampton has a rapidly growing population with an increasing proportion of elderly residents. This presents us with a challenge to make sure we get the most value from our services and that they are designed to closely meet people's needs.
'From October 2015 our contract with Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to provide community services such as Okehampton Hospital, district nursing and community physiotherapy is due for renewal.
'By the end of this year we need to decide exactly which services we want provided in the future and how they are run.
'At the summit we will explain a little more about what we do and what we need to do. We will also ask you for your thoughts as we want to involve you when deciding the future contracts for your local health services.'
The summit takes places at the Ockment Centre on Wednesday, June 26 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
