CHILDREN in Okehampton can take part in an annual Summer Reading Challenge thanks to Okehampton Library.

Every year, thousands of families across the country are involved in the Challenge, the UK's biggest reading event for children in libraries. The aim is to get children to read six books from their library during the summer holidays. The challenge is free, and helps children to keep their reading skills sharp during the school holidays. Today (Thursday) sees the library open for children to create spooky portraits, from 10.30am to 11.30am. There is also Spooky Stories on Saturday, August 24 at 11am, as well as the spin-tingling cellar activity on Friday, Agust 30, with children able to create and play a new ghoulish game from 3pm to 4pm.

For more information call the library on 01837 52805.
