A COUPLE from Sheepwash fundraising for their grandson are edging closer to their target — with a little help from Waitrose.

Anna and Buster Jones are raising money for their three-year-old grandson, Jenson Tucker.

Jenson was deprived of oxygen at birth, and at six months old was diagnosed with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy.

Shortly after he turned one year old he was also diagnosed with epilepsy.

The couple are aiming to raise £65,000 so Jenson can travel to St Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri and have a selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operation.

The procedure aims to reduce spasms caused by Jenson's condition.

Jenson cannot have the operation through the NHS.

The money will also be put toward physiotherapy and special equipment to help get him on his feet following the operation.

They have now reached a total of £56,709.32 — 87% of their total target.

The latest donation pushing them closer to their goal was from Okehampton's Waitrose store, who donated £293 to the cause through their Community Matters scheme.

Anna Jones said: 'We are absolutely delight with the way the fundraising is going, and never cease to be amazed by the kindness and generosity shown by so many people.

'This operation will make a huge different to Jenson's life and it wouldn't be possible without all the help that we have been given.

'We can't thank everyone enough.'
