A TEACHER at Clinton Church of England Primary School,?Merton, will take on the challenge of the London Marathon to raise money for a childhood cancer charity.
Amy Walsh, Key Stage 1 teacher at the school, will run to raise money for Families Against Neuroblastoma — the charity acts as a first port of call for families who have found out their child is suffering from Neuroblastoma. The disease is a cancer of the nervous system, and can therefore affect every part of the body.
Amy was inspired to run for the charity by a pupil, who told his teacher about a child who had died from the disease. Last year, Amy ran the marathon for another children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.
Her efforts are being supported by children at the school, who are preparing to take part in a two mile 'marathon' run of their own on Friday, April 19.
Amy said: 'Training is going really well, and I am up to 20 miles. I hope to finish the marathon in four hours and 30 minutes, ideally in four hours.
'Children are really enjoying the running, and are training in their play times.'
