TWO cats in a small pet carrier were found abandoned in a parking area in Okehampton recently.

A mother and daughter were walking to the town centre from Tors Road when, as they passed a small gravelled parking area, they heard distressed cat noises. There were no cars parked nearby so the two ladies picked up the carrier and took it home.

It is not known who was responsible for abandoning the cats but the carrier was left in an exposed spot on a warm day with no water or food.

If the cats had not been found in the morning, there would have been a great possibility that they would have died.

In the carrier, which was fairly small and only meant for one animal, they found two black and white cats, not fully grown, and extremely frightened.

Unfortunately, one of the terrified cats managed to escape and disappeared, but Cats Protection was called to pick up the other one.

Cats Protection managed to get the cat fostered and is still looking for the cat that escaped.

The charity is currently looking for people to help occasionally with collecting or transporting cats in Okehampton to various fosterers locally.
