THE annual meeting of Halwill Garden Club last Tuesday saw the end of its first chairman's term of office.

It had been agreed at the last annual meeting that the maximum term for any of the officers would be three years, so that it never became too much of a chore, rather than a pleasure and that new, fresh ideas could be tried.

Retiring chairman Jane Spencer covered the highlights of the past year in her report, which included winning the inter club quiz for the second consecutive year and having several excellent speakers, a visit to Coombe Trenchard and a summer meeting in the lovely gardens of a member.

Anne Russell was elected as the new chairman and Kathy Grange as treasurer. Before the new officers took their place a vote of thanks to the retiring chairman came from Syd Cherrill and a presentation was made by club secretary Lynn Barton, of an Old Tupton vase which featured snowdrops. It was to thank Jane not only for her work as chairman but for being the founder of what is now a thriving, lively club.

New members are always welcome on the third Tuesday of the month, meetings are held in the Winsford Centre, Halwill Junction at 7.30pm. The next is on November 15 and is on co-evolution of plants and pollinators.
