A NEW member has been co-opted on to Okehampton Town Council following a special meeting last Monday.

Kevin Ball, 48, (right) who lives in North Street, Okehampton, will represent the east ward and steps in for Cllr Peter Stunell, who has moved to Exeter.

Mr Ball, who is married with four children, is a training development consultant.

He has lived in Okehampton for 10 years and his wife, Della, is a governor at Okehampton Primary School.

Two of his children go to the primary and the other two to Okehampton College.

Mr Ball is also chairman of the local managment group for Connect, a youth organisation which works in Okehampton College.

He and his wife are also members of the town's Inspirational Church.

He told the Times: 'This is the first time I have ever done anything like this and I am looking forward to it.

'Some people just take for granted the work which is done by the council on behalf of the town but it doesn't just happen, somebody has to take responsibility and I want to do my part for our Okehampton.'
