Okehampton Local History Society will welcome a special guest to give a talk to members and non-members at a meeting on Wednesday.

Members of the Hatherleigh Local History Society will be joining Okehampton members to welcome Professor of History at the University of Southampton, Mark Stoyle, who will be speaking on the English Civil War in Devon.

There will be no talk in August due to a guided walk around North Tawton, for the society's second summer outing.

Meetings of the history society are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Ockment Hall, at the rear of the Ockment Community Centre in North Street.

New members are welcome and anyone interested can phone the secretary, Malcolm Francis-Lang, on 01837 840158.

There is a £2 charge for non-members who attend meetings, which includes tea and coffee.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 8 from 7.30pm at the Ockment Hall.
