TAVISTOCK Musical Theatre Company will be performing The Sound of Music at Tavistock Town Hall from October 22 to 26 and for one local resident it will be a trip down memory lane.
Abi Potter’s daughter Daisy will be playing the part of one of the Von Trapp children, Brigitta, 36 years after Abi herself played the role in The Sound of Music, by the same society (then called Tavistock Operatic Society) and even on the same stage!
Abi said: ‘In 1983 the show was directed by Margaret Crook. The production was hugely popular and I remember playing to full audiences on each performance. I was aged 10 at the time but the memories have lasted a lifetime and I can even remember a lot of the song words, dialogue and details about the costumes.
‘It was such a fun show to be involved with and I am still friends with some of the other ‘Von Trapp children’ from the show today. ‘
‘I am so pleased Daisy will have a chance to take part in this iconic musical and make lasting memories of her own. My only sadness is that Daisy’s grandad, Terry Potter, who was heavily involved with the society for over 40 years, is no longer here to see her carry on the tradition — but I know on opening night he’ll be watching!’
