FOOTBALL fan Richard Wagstaff from Tavistock and two friends are travelling by all means possible to 107 football stadiums in eight days to raise money for charity.
The men will visit 92 Football League clubs and the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs as well as Wembley, the Principality Stadium in Wales and Hampden Park in Scotland.
All modes of public transport will be taken to get them there including trains, buses, ferries and flights.
’There’s quite a few clubs who are going to meet us,’ said Richard. ’St Johnstone are going to bring out the Scottish Cup they won last year and let us have a photo with it on the pitch, and Rangers are letting us go out on to the pitch.’
He said most of the smaller clubs had been fantastic with 40 clubs hsaying they will donate something:
’I am chuffed with some of the stuff they have offered, as we’ve had everything from signed shirts to match tickets,’ he said.
The three football fans are funding the trip themselves with all money raised going to Cancer Research UK. Richard lost his father to the disease and all three men had been impacted by the disease in some way.
He said there were not many people who had not been affected by or known someone with cancer.
Richard said he believed that no-one had ever done this challenge before with the national grounds and Scottish premier Leaque clubs included.
He said that trying to co-ordinate the transport was quite a challenge in itself.
’The most difficult bit is the flight really â?? we’ve got to take a flight from Manchester to Inverness, which lands at 9.30pm, then get to Ross County, but be back in Inverness and leave at 6.30am the next day. But if we miss it, or there is any problem with the flight, then it’s the only one that day, so we’re stuck.’
