BIGGEST and best yet — that was the verdict following this year's Baring-Gould Folk Festival, staged by Wren Music.

Marilyn Tucker, artistic director of the West Devon-based folk arts development charity, said more than 30 events were staged in a variety of venues in and around Okehampton last weekend.

Marilyn said: 'Alongside the programme of concerts and folk dances, there were numerous singarounds and music sessions in local pubs, as well as singing, music-making and dancing workshops for adults and for children.

'Many people commented that the high point of the festival for them was the Saturday evening hog roast, reminding them of a traditional harvest supper, with an ample spread, convivial company, and entertainment from some of the West Country's finest singers, musicians and storytellers.'

Marilyn said that as the festival continued to grow, people were coming from further and further away, which could only be good news for Okehampton businesses and accommodation providers.

'As well as visitors from across the UK, this year we welcomed music lovers from as far afield as Alaska and Australia!' said Marilyn.

Wren Music will soon start working on the programme for next year's Baring-Gould Folk Festival, which will be held over the weekend of October 22 to 24, 2010.
