A WEEKEND of sunshine and great live music was enjoyed by everyone who went along to Chagstock last weekend.

In its fifth year, the family-friendly music festival at Whiddon Down ran through the weekend, with this year's theme for the festival being pirates — and lots of festival goers got into the mood by dressing up and having a tipple in the 'Cork and Cutlass' beer tent.

Event organiser Simon Ford was pleased with how the event went:

'I think on the whole everything went really well,' he said.

'We could have done with a few more people up here perhaps, but everyone who was here seemed to be having a fantastic time.

'All the headliners were great, and personally I really enjoyed my own slot. The weather on Saturday was absolutely brilliant, too.

'The main thing was that everyone who came to the festival seemed to be enjoying themselves.'

The headline acts included Show of Hands, who played an energetic set to a boisterous crowd on Friday night, and The Magic Numbers, who delighted those at the main stage on Saturday night with their unique pop sound.

Chagford Primary School Choir and the winners of the Okehampton 2010 Battle of the Bands The Sherpas were among the acts with a local connection playing the event.

The festival attracted music lovers from across the country. Amy Fisher was one such visitor, who travelled from Leicester for the event.

She said: 'I had an amazing time at Chagstock.

'My favourite part of the weekend was the opening night and watching Show of Hands. They had the audience in the palm of their hands, and everyone was just having such a good time.

'I'd go back in a flash. I liked the intimacy of a smaller festival, and made the music more personal.'

Simon and the organising team were not getting ahead of themselves.

'We've not started planning for next year just yet. We've still got lots to do following the end of this year's festival, but we're looking forward to the next one.'
