PLENTY of marquees and gazebos offered welcome shade for spectators to watch the more competitive souls take part in races and other events on a fabulous day of fun for all the village at Monkokehampton recently.

Eclectic teams comprising small girls with prettily painted faces alongside dads and grandads — and the occasional mum — squared up for a hotly contested see-saw tug of war.

It was difficult to discern a winning team, but everyone voted the contest hilarious and great entertainment.

The winning scarecrows from 'Indespicable Me'  were made by the Pearce family; the chocolate cake competition winner was Peggy Martin, and first across the line in the duck race was  Jessica Lewis with number 38.
