A DOG from Black Torrington has received national recognition, claiming a top prize at Crufts.

Yvonne King and her son Andrew travelled to the event in Birmingham earlier this month to enter their dog, Trelowen Heligan, otherwise known as Sami, into the competition.

Sami, a Norwegian Buhund, went on to have a great day, claiming the best of breed prize.

As best of Breed, Sami went into the pastoral group, which was shown on television.

He also won his second Kennel Club Challenge certificate.

Mrs King said: 'We are very thrilled to win the best of breed prize at Crufts.

'I didn't get to see myself on television, but everyone who did told me as soon as they could, and I was thrilled with that too.

'We compete most weekends in open and championship shows.

'We've been to Crufts twice before, winning second and third in class before now. We will certainly be back at Crufts again next year.'
