A £500 donation from Okehampton Town Council's grant aid fund will be put towards the running of the popular Baring-Gould Folk Weekend.
Marilyn Tucker, of Wren Music, visited the town hall on August 21 to collect the £500 cheque from town mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies. It will go towards the running of this year's folk weekend.
Cllr Davies said: 'Events like the Baring-Gould weekend are popular with people in the town and attract people from far and wide. The town council is very happy to be able to show its support in this way.'
The line-up for this year's Baring-Gould Folk Weekend in October has been revealed. It features folk stars such as Phil Beer and Peggy Seeger, plus visitors from Devon and beyond, including Icelandic duo Flúr.
The event, which takes place over three days from October 25 to October 27, is organised by Wren Music, and is a celebration of what is best in folk music and local tradition. It is dedicated to the work of Sabine Baring-Gould, of Lewtrenchard, who collected and made popular the folk songs of Devon at the end of the 19th century.
Wren artistic director Marilyn Tucker said the event is a milestone in the Wren Music 30th anniversary year: 'Paul Wilson and I are having a great time reminiscing about the past thirty years and we'll put some of these memories into the opening concert.
'We try as much as we can to be a real West Country autumn festival, with the fun conker competition and the feast, which is like an old fashioned harvest supper.'
The line up also features Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer, Julie Murphy, Bill Crawford, Bill Murray, Malcolm Woods, Martin and Shan Graebe as well as the Wren team Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson, David Faulkner, Sarah Owen, Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll, Rosa Rebecka and Matt Norman and the Mandolin Orchestra of Devon.
Weekend tickets are now on sale at £30 from Wren Music at 1 St James Street, by calling 01837 53754 or online at http://www.baring-gould.co.uk">www.baring-gould.co.uk
