South West Peninsula division one East
Okehampton Argyle 0
Exmouth Town 2
ARGYLE's first fixture for nearly two months was a tremendously competitive match in which both teams played some excellent football in difficult conditions.
The first half was an even affair in which Okehampton played the better football but Exmouth made the better openings and both sides were well satisfied with the 0-0 score at half-time.
After the interval, Argyle began to push Exmouth back and Nomah-Koneh was unlucky to see his well placed effort fall just wide of the post.
Okehampton Argyle's midfield, in which Matt Sanders and Ben Harris had outstanding games, continued to dominate play, but Argyle just didn't get the run of the ball in front of goal.
As the game wore on, it was obvious that there were some tired legs among the Okehamptons' players and Exmouth began to look dangerous on the break.
After 63 minutes, an excellent counter attack by Exmouth saw Andrew Jones square the ball across the area for Jack Civill to score with a firm low shot from the edge of the box.
Argyle came back again but had the stuffing knocked out of them nine minutes later when Ben Shepherd's ball from the right was volleyed home from 25 yards by Dave O'Connor.
Okehampton did not fold after this setback and came back again and saw a fine attack end with a header being pushed onto the crossbar by visiting keeper Sandy Allen. Try as they might, Argyle were unable to close the gap and a close, competitive match ended in the visitors' favour.
Okehampton certainly proved that they are competitive at this level, but they still remain bottom of the league and in danger of relegation.
Next week's match at second to bottom Bickleigh is a vital one for the club.
