RESIDENTS of Okehampton will save an average of 44p on their council tax next year as a result of the town council's latest budget analysis.

Each year the town council closely analyses its precept — the amount of money it receives from council tax.

At a meeting of the council on Tuesday January 3, councillors raised the town precept for 2011/12 to £198,736 compared with £195,000 for 2010/11.

Despite the raise, residents stand to save around 44 pence a year due to there now being more houses in Okehampton than during the planning of the previous precept.

The town precept forms part of the overall council tax bill for households. The majority of the funds go to Devon County Council for its services — West Devon Borough Council and the police share the remainder.
