I AM writing to thank the people of Okehampton for making me feel so very welcome on the day I carried the Olympic Torch through the town on Monday May 21.

It is a day I will never ever forget, and it was made even more special by the warm and friendly reception I received from the residents lining the streets.

There was an amazing community spirit and togetherness throughout the event, and it was wonderful to see so many Union flags being waved.

The support and vocal encouragement I received during my time with the torch was absolutely unbelievable, and I must confess it made me feel both very proud and emotional.

I am privileged to have been nominated as a 2012 Olympic relay torchbearer, and I consider myself very lucky to have had the fortune of doing it at Okehampton.

Okehampton will now hold a very special place in my heart, and I wish it every success in the future.
