Residents at Hatherleigh Care Village saw in the new year with a rousing Hogmanay party.
Many of the residents spent the day helping the home's housekeepers in the traditional 'redding', or sweeping-out, of the house — a tradition which is believed to blow away the ashes of last year and make way for the new.
In the evening, after a buffet supper including steak pies, 'bannocks' or fruit buns, and mulled wine, care staff provided the home with music before the traditional 'Auld Lang Syne' at midnight.
One of the home's care staff served as the 'tall dark visitor', bringing good luck by being the first to cross the threshold in the new year
Home manager Sue Trott said: 'It was a lively new year here at the home – people are often surprised at how keen our residents are on the Hogmanay traditions.
'The appeal of brightening up the winter months and looking forward to spring is something we can all understand at this time of year, and that's just as true for older people.'
