A SIX-year-old Doberman, who despite the odds being stacked against her, came out triumphant when she won the Okeford Vets Braveheart Award in June.
Affectionate black and tan Trilby arrived at Okeford Veterinary Surgery in May suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration.
She was placed on antibiotics and re-hydration support, but when she returned to the surgery the following day she had shown no sign of improvement.
Trilby was admitted and placed on fluids, and a general anaesthetic was administered, followed by X-rays which revealed abnormalities of the intestines and gut.
Further tests also resulted in her appendix being removed.
After refusing her antibiotics, Trilby eventually agreed to take them disguised in Waitrose sausages and chicken, hand-fed to her on a daily basis which she continues to get as a special treat every day.
