A PEDESTRIAN and driver were injured after a car crashed into the display frontage of IG Maccullock's Garage on East Street last Friday (May 30). The accident happened around noon, when a silver Volkswagen Polo veered off the road and into the front of the garage's showroom, destroying the glass frontage and damaging the inside of the showroom. Three cars inside were left damaged. The car also destroyed a small brick wall and a metal bollard on the front of the garage forecourt. Both the driver and pedestrian were injured and taken to hospital following the incident. The fire service was called and two local appliances were mobilised to the incident. The first paramedics arrived on scene around 12.25pm. The incident affected traffic in the area, closing the road both ways. Traffic coming up East Street was re-routed by police onto Crediton Road, while traffic travelling down the hill into town was re-routed along Barton Road. Traffic on the A30 at the Meldon junction was also affected.
