HOW simplistic is UKIP's view of the world? Very is a charitable answer. From their election leaflet I have just received, downright lies may be the actual one. More jobs? Why do all industry and employer organisations say the opposite? We live in a global world and manufacturers would move to other parts of Europe. Trade with the world? The Commonwealth? Ask Australia, who are hugely linked with their neighbours, South East Asia. Europe would still trade with us, yes, but imports would be subject to EU export taxes and would still have to meet EU production standards. Food and fuel cheaper? Although far from perfect the CAP subsidises our farmers also. Would we continue to do so — no cost benefit there! Green fuel issues — does the environment stop at the Channel? Only international agreements can help. Immigration and Jobs? A not unsubtle racist sub-plot to all the arguments. A throw back to an age which never existed except as Britain exploited the rest of the world through colonialism. Incidentally, almost 750,000 UK citizens are living and working in Europe. The European Union has helped keep peace in Europe for 70 years. It has brought us the minimum wage and improved employment law protections such as flexible working and paternity leave. The UK risks becoming an isolated and out-of-touch state – a little England. That's where a UKIP vote leads. Ian Gasper Marshall Close Tavistock
