A BELSTONE man is appealing for information, after purchasing some items of wartime memorabilia at a local car boot sale.
The three framed certificates bought by Richard Norrish mark Belstone's contribution to the war effort in 1942/43.
One was presented to the parish by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, commemorating the adoption of HMS Onyx during 'Warship Week' in February 1942, and was forwarded to the chairman of Belstone Parish Council by the then clerk of Okehampton Rural District Council, Frank Hawken, on November 3, 1942.
Another certificate of honour is made out to the Belstone Savings Group in recognition of special achievement during the Wings for Victory national savings campaign in 1943, signed by the Secretary of State for Air, Archibald Sinclair.
The final certificate, signed by P Grigg, Secretary of State for War, was in grateful acknowledgement of Belstone Savings Group's successful achievement in the national savings campaign of 1944.
Mr Norrish said: 'I am interested in social history and I collect postcards — I've got thousands of them.
'Living in Belstone, these caught my eye and made me think about them, especially after David Cameron was talking about "Your Country Needs You" at the Tory conference.
'I'd be interested to know anything about them, if anyone can throw any light on them, I'd be glad to hear from them.'
Anyone who can help Mr Norrish can call him on 01837 840378.
