A NORTHLEW vineyard that is proving Devon can compete on a world stage for wine production also competed well on the Okehampton stage — winning best stand in the Okehampton Show's Devon Food Hall.
Hilary Waller from Eastcott Vineyard promoted its range of wines, includes its sparkling wine, which recently gained recognition at the international wine challenge and international wine and spirits competition.
Hilary said: 'Since 2010 over 50% of the wine produced in England is sparkling wine, and it is what we have the climate and environment to produce. With our three international medals for our fizz, we are getting recognised for our own sparkling wine, and that is something we want to keep going.'
Judging for best stall was BBC Radio Devon's Matt Woodley, who shared his congratulations with Hilary.
Matt said: 'Eastcott won for the presentation of its stand, it really stood out when you walked in with its parasol and great presentation of the bottles.
'I have walked around and all the produce tastes and looks amazing, but Eastcott just edged it.'
Hilary said: 'We tried to create an ambience and atmosphere with our stand, and it is great to win best stand. This is our local show and we love to come, and it is nice to do something to meet our customers.
'Things with the vineyard are going really well, people see it as a revelation to see the hard work and see how it produces the wine. Things are looking good for us.'
