OKEHAMPTON'S section of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group is £1,500 better off thanks to the county's vintage motoring enthusiasts.
Devon Vintage Car Club presented cheques totalling £3,000 to charity at their exhibition of vintage and classic cars at the Barbican in Plymouth recently.
There were 25 cars displayed, including a rare 1920s Rover with a 1922 caravan in tow, a couple of Austin Sevens, a 1934 Morris 10/4, a 1949 Triumph Roadster and an immaculately restored split-screen 1950s Morris Minor.
The cheque for Okehampton DSRG was presented by Stan Agar, of Okehampton, to Paul Vochon, controller of the Okehampton branch. A cheque for £1,500 was also presented by the vintage car club president Beryl Friend to Ian Sheriff of the Alzheimer's Association of Devon. chairperson of the club, Mary Thorns said: 'The club is grateful to the Alzheimer's Association and to Dartmoor Search and Rescue for the excellent and caring support given to the community by volunteers.'
The charity chosen by the club for next year's presentation is the Parkinson's Disease Society. The next fundraising event is the Autojumble at Hatherleigh on Easter Sunday.
