A LOCAL support group has received a cheque for £280, thanks to shoppers at the Okehampton Waitrose store.

The Devon Grandparents’ Support Group was fortunate to be chosen as one of the local charities to benefit from the superstore’s Community Matters scheme in January.

Customers have the choice of three local charities to choose from each month and are given a token to allocate their choice every time they shop in the store.

A cheque was recently presented by Vickie Mills, Community Matters partner, to Bernie Little, trustee of the Devon Grandparents Support Group.

Waitrose allocates £1,000 each month to be shared between the three chosen charities.

Mr Little said: ‘It was not only the generous donation that was so welcome, but the added exposure given to the group helps us to raise awareness to grandparents and grandchildren in Devon who are denied contact with one another.

‘I would like to add thanks to both Waitrose for giving us the opportunity, but also to all their customers who chose to vote for the support group with their tokens.’
