OKEHAMPTON Walk and Talk is looking to welcome new members to the group as its July to September programme kicks off.

The group runs a series of weekly short and moderate walks, and a longer monthly afternoon walk on Sundays.

As well as promoting a gentle and relaxed way to exercise, the friendly group encourages socialising and making new friends.

The weekly short walks start outside Waitrose at 10.30am each Tuesday. Up to one and a half miles, the 40-minute walks take place on flat routes and are suitable for those who do little physical activity or are restricted by mobility problems.

Each Wednesday the group holds its moderate walks. Meeting at 10am opposite the post office, the walks take between an hour and 90 minutes, and are for those who can cope walking up steep inclines and at a faster pace. The walks take in routes such as the Granite Way and Old Town Park, and can cover up to four miles.

The monthly Sunday walks, planned for August 5 to Sourton Tor and September 2 to Combebow, meet at 1.30pm outside the post office to share transport. These routes also encorporate steep inclines and uneven ground.
