THE name of an Okehampton soldier is to be added to the town's war memorial at a service of dedication on Tuesday, October 30.
Corporal Michael Pike, who was killed in action in 2011, spent the first five years of his life in Okehampton before moving to Scotland.
His extended family, including his mother and father, all live in the Okehampton area and have requested his name be added to the war memorial.
Michael was leading a patrol in contact with the enemy when he was killed.
Having joined the Army at the age of 16, he was serving as a section commander in A Company, 4th Battalion (The Highlanders), The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The service of dedication will take place at 2pm at All Saints Parish Church, to be led by Rev Stephen Cook.
The ceremony is being organised by the Okehampton Branch of the Royal British Legion in collaboration with the parish church and Okehampton Town Council.
Members of Mr Pike's family will be present, as will the High Sheriff of Devon, President of the Devon Royal British Legion, and representatives of Michael's battalion, who will have travelled from Germany to attend.
