I REFER to your article (April 8) regarding the lack of provisions for tourists and the general low profile of Okehampton.
While I empathise with concerns of the council and agree that a lot could be done to encourage more life into the town; I take issue with the comment that on Sundays there is 'barely even a cafe open'.
I am a cafe owner who is open on Sundays and I have been for the past two and a half years.
I offer a varied menu suiting all tastes including roast dinners for those who pre-book.
We even offer a take-away service for those on the go.
While I understand that the article is trying to highlight that more could be done to encourage businesses to open on Sundays; I feel the report would deter the tourists who read it from eating in Okehampton on Sundays.
This is hardly helpful to those businesses in Okehampton who are prepared to open on a Sunday and in turn bring trade into the town, which, after all was the main aim.
