AS the hedgerows have died back and received their winter trims a new harvest has been revealed — litter. Fed up with seeing this I decided to do a litter pick-up in my local lane. In a two-mile stretch I managed to fill six black bags with, mainly, drink cans, coffee cups and crisp packets!  I am aware that a number of people feel that items dropped from the recycling collections are the main culprits to roadside litter. I can assure readers that the carrier bags full of beer cans found are not a result of this, although the sink, ceramic tiles and car parts found in the lay-by on the Brightly Road may be a result of the council charging for these at the recycling centre. We can improve our environment if we work together. The next time you go out for a local walk why not take a bag and pick up some litter too. We will never convert the inconsiderate individuals who throw litter from their vehicles, but we will help to keep it down and maintain our beautiful countryside. David Botting-Page Sampford Chapple
