ANYONE who fancies a spot of bird watching can bring their family along to RHS Garden Rosemoor this half term for a fascinating 'Birds in the Garden' week, and join in the fun of spotting and learning about our feathered friends.
February is a perfect time for seeing birds in the garden. They are more easily spotted without the leaves on the trees, and at Rosemoor there is a huge selection of resident and visiting birds frequenting the many bird feeders there.
Buzzards, ravens, chaffinches and song thrushes, as well as tawny owls, barn owls, little egrets and goldfinches have all been spotted at Rosemoor, and you may be lucky enough to see some of the birds occupying the 108 nest boxes situated around the garden.
Throughout half term week (February 14 to 22) there will be lots of interesting bird-themed activities to take part in, including bird I-spy, bird walks, nest displays and a children's photographic competition.
There will also be a visit from Owl and Raptor rescue group 'Owls are Us' on Wednesday February 18, who will bring in a variety of different species of owls, and be on hand to answer your questions on anything owl-related.
February is also a great time to see the wonderful selection of winter flowering shrubs in the garden, as well as a wealth of berries, bark and colourful stems.
