THE Two Moors Festival returned to Okehampton on Friday October 14. The event celebrated its tenth anniversary with a series of concerts at All Saints Parish Church.

The day's music started with a lecture recital by pianist Ashley Wass and festival director Penny Adie, providing narration explaining cadenzas.

Cadenzas are written-out or improvised passages of music performed purely by a soloist to showcase their technical prowess. Their performance was joined by expressive young soprano Victoria Barton.

In the evening, world-renowned pianist, Christoph Berner, violinist Natalie Lomeiko, cellist Marko Ylönen and baritone Stephan Loges performed arrangements of works by Haydn, Beethoven and Schönberg, and Schubert's beautiful 'Notturno in E flat'.

George Ware, chairman of the Friends of All Saints Parish Church, said: 'The church was practically full, with some people having travelled long distances, and the world class performances from these international artists were very much enjoyed by everyone.

'The festival organisers and performers particularly appreciate being able to visit and use All Saints Church with its wonderful acoustics. The Friends of All Saints Parish Church, who tirelessly raise funds for the preservation of the fabric of this historic church, were again delighted to welcome and host this most successful event.'

Other performances included the Camaraderie Quartet performing a series of a cappella songs including traditional madrigals on love and animals, and re-imagined songs by Elton John and Billy Joel.

Lunches and suppers with wine were provided by the Friends of All Saints Parish Church.
