45 Years of Experience, Expertise and Trust in the Motor Trade

I have been working in the motor trade for 45 years, having started my career in 1981 with Richard Walke – Tavistock’s Citroen/Peugeot Specialist. I worked for Richard for over 35 years before starting my own business, also a Citroen/Peugeot specialist, Westbridge Motor Services in 2020. Our first day was 30th March, the day of the first Coronavirus lockdown. Thankfully, we were able to carry on working using appropriate PPE and collecting customer’s cars.
The motor trade has always been more than buying, selling and repairing vehicles. It is an industry based on trust, customer service and high-quality workmanship. Looking back on over 45 years in the trade provides a unique perspective on how dramatically the industry has evolved, while remaining rooted in the same fundamental principles. When I first entered the motor trade, the vehicles were largely mechanical. Throughout the 80s and 90s the industry experienced rapid development; electronic fuel injection replaced carburettors; engine management systems became commonplace and new sophisticated safety features made continuous learning become essential. The turn of the century brought even greater transformation with computerised diagnostics revolutionising vehicle maintenance and repair. In more recent years the pace of change has accelerated further with Hybrid and Electric Vehicles requiring new skills, training and investment.
At Westbridge Motor Services we have many years of expertise and knowledge with advanced electronic and software-based systems. Now, with our highly knowledgeable and experienced staff, we can offer all vehicle repairs including hybrid and electric vehicles, wet belt replacements and in-depth diagnostics as well as high quality used car sales. We are also proudly a DVSA approved MOT testing station and member of the Retail Motor Industry Federation.
