CRICKETERS in West Devon are being encouraged to join the indoor six-a-side cricket for next year.
Six teams were entered in the first Active Villages Okehampton Area adult indoor cricket six-a-side League this year, and people who are interested in playing in 2013 should register by December 15.
Games will be on a midweek night, starting in late February/March and is a great way to warm up before the season starts.
The rules state that each team can bat for up to 10 overs, everybody bowls 1-3 overs (except the keeper), batsmen retire on 25 — but can re-enter, fielding and running are key in the limited space, you score two runs if you make a run wicket to wicket, one run for hitting a side or the back wall behind the keeper, you score four if the ball doesn't touch the ground and hits the end wall (like a six in normal cricket), and you score a six if the ball does hit the ground and hits the end wall (like a four in normal cricket).
The cost will be £16 a team per game. Teams will need to provide somebody who can umpire — this person can also score.
Players can only play for one team and because of the intensity of the game the league will only be for players age 15 and above.
