Devon and Exeter four

Okehampton Argyle Reserves 4

Seaton Town Reserves 3

THIS was a match where each side controlled the game for long periods and the balance of power regularly switched from one side to the other.

Seaton, who are third off the bottom of the table, belied their league position and were the better side in the first 45 minutes.

Only some poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Dave Smith for Argyle kept them at bay.

The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead after 30 minutes when a smart header from a corner appeared to cross the Argyle line before being headed clear with the referee unsighted. To compound Seaton's woes, Okehampton broke away immediately and John Coakley burst clear to give them the lead. Right on half-time, Argyle doubled their lead when Brad Ausden cut in from the right to fire home from the edge of the box.

Seaton deservedly pulled a goal back just after the break with a fine finish from 20 yards, but Argyle then dominated the game for the next half-hour.

Dan Leahy hit home a great goal from 25 yards out and then Brad Ausden broke clear to cleverly outwit the Seaton keeper with a finely weighted finish from the edge of the box.

Argyle should have scored more in this purple patch, but missed three clear chances when players broke through with only the keeper to beat. Steve Kinsey made many great runs from midfield during this period, but the the home side tended to be over elaborate in front of goal.

Seaton came back into the game and scored two superb goals, which meant that Okehampton had to defend in depth for the last 10 minutes and were relieved to hear the final whistle.

n This Saturday Argyle first team are home to Teignmouth in the South West Peninsula division one East, kick-off 3pm. On Monday Argyle seconds are home to Lapford in Devon and Exeter four, kick-off 6.30pm.
