SUNDAY saw the final weekend of the season for track and field athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club.
Three juniors represented the club at the national Youth Development League play offs at the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham.
In the 800 metres Josh Blake won a silver medal and Sam Lane de Courtin also grabbed a silver medal in the 1,500 metres. Jade Kinsey took bronze in both the 200 metres and the 300 metres.
Team manager for the day Tracy Lane De Courtin said: ‘To get the experience of national competition and to pick up medals has been a fitting end to the hard work and commitment the athletes have shown throughout the pre-season training and the competitive season. Tavistock Athletic Club is absolutely delighted with the performances of Jade, Josh and Sam’.
At Yeovil it was the final day of competition in the South West League. Tavistock athletes compete for the composite Armada Athletics team in division two of the league.
The Armada team is made up from teams based in Plymouth, Ivybridge, east Cornwall and Tavistock. On Sunday it was Tavistock Athletics Club who made up the majority of the team.
A finish in the top two places from the seven competing teams on the day would give Armada the necessary points to gain promotion to division one. The Armada team did not disappoint and competed hard against league leaders Newton Abbot for every point to ensure they grabbed at least that second spot for promotion.
Tavistock coach and team manager Tammie Ryder said: ‘Well done to all the athletes that took part in this year’s South West League and competed so incredibly well. I’m so proud of them all. I’m especially proud of all the Tavistock athletes that showed up each time to compete their hearts out. They made me a very proud coach, and I would like to thank them so much.’
