Okehampton ladies’ Badgers 3

Plymouth Marjons ladies’ Badgers 1

ON a showery and blustery Sunday morning the Okehampton team looked sharp from the start with Livy Rubbra passing the ball quickly and accurately and so putting the opposition under pressure.

Fleur Mitchell, who dominated the Oke midfield, pushed up towards the Marjons’ circle where her well-timed pass found Eleanor Marvin in space and she coolly slotted the ball into the net to give Oke the lead. Marjons came back to attack and a narrowly angled strike outwitted both the Oke defence and goalkeeper to trickle over the line for an equaliser.

The visitors were gaining in confidence and had several more strikes at goal forcing skilful saves from Ella Kaye to keep her team in the game. Oke were unlucky to concede a couple of penalty corners but defender Hannah Woodhams used her electric speed to prevent Marjons from even taking a strike. Oke’s captain Izzy Rowlands playing at right back read the game well intercepting the ball and then finding Annie Strawbridge with some perfectly placed passes. Annie used her blistering pace to attack and work well with right wing Abbie Luxton pressurising the Marjons goal.

Player of the match Lucy Wiseman was strong and dominant on the ball powering her way towards the circle. Her determination led to Oke’s second goal when her shot found Emilia Bazeley picking up the rebound and hammering the ball into the net. The final goal came when Oke were awarded a penalty corner. In a well worked routine Annie Strawbridge found Emilia Bazeley whose precision pass found Eleanor Marvin on the post waiting to score.
